HUNGARIAN JOURNALISTS PROTEST

NOVI SAD, May 8, 2002 - Journalists from Yugoslavia's only Hungarian-language daily, Magyar Szo, will march to the Vojvodina Parliament today in protest at threats to the newspaper's existence. The Parliament, which is the proprietor of the daily, has warned that financial problems could lease to the closu8re of the paper. The employees are demanding that Magyar Szo become an independent company with its own financial management and the power to appoint its own board and executives.
