10.000 Cyrillic domains by the end of the year

Belgrade, March 11, 2011. (Danas) - The aim is to have at least 10.000 Cyrillic domains - "srb" and the beginning of their registration is expected from May 15 - it was announced today at the conference of the Register of National Internet Domains (RNIDS) organized on the occasion of the Day of the Internet Domains in Serbia. As it was emphasized at the conference, on February 11, RNIDS sent to organization IANA documentation for delegating management of the "srb" domain, to which more than 20 organization had given support.    

Vojislav Radic, the coordinator of the working group for regulating the management of the "srb" domain, said that Cyrillic domains, registered together with "rs" domain, would be free-of-charge during the first year and that obtaining a domain would last six months. As for the sub-domains, "co" would be replaced with "pr", "edu" with "obr", "org" would be the same, while private domains "in" would become "od". RNIDS Director Nenad Marinkovic said that increase in number of domains in Serbia had been registered in the last year. According to him, it is expected that 75.000 "rs" domains would be by the end of the year.
