Mijatovic: Good cooperation with Serbian authorities

26.3.2015. (Tanjug) - BELGRADE - OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Dunja Mijatovic said Thursday that she had good cooperation with the Serbian authorities and would continue to work together with them, despite certain disagreements, to improve the media freedom situation.


"Cooperation with the Serbian authorities has never been disputed. Disagreements about certain topics I am speaking about is something that is happening not only in Serbia but in many other countries as well," Mijatovic told Tanjug after giving a speech at the Conference on the Protection of Safety and Integrity of Journalists in the OSCE Region in Belgrade today.

"There is no country in the (Western Balkans) region and broader neighborhood that can be said to have an ideal media situation," she said, pointing out that it was essential authorities dealt with the problems of journalist safety.

Speaking at the opening of the conference's plenary session, Mijatovic said that violence against journalists, both physical and psychological, had to be stopped as soon as possible, and it was important highest levels of government condemned attacks on journalists.
