EC concerned over taking of investigative program off air

11.3.2015. (Tanjug, B92) - BRUSSELS -- Brussels views with concern the decision of the B92 television to take its Reporter program off the air for security reasons.

This was announced by Maja Kocijancic, spokeswoman for Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn.

The European Commission regrets the postponement of the broadcasting of the investigative program, Kocijancic said Wednesday, adding that threats and violence against journalists undermine media freedoms, a fundamental European value and an important condition for Serbia's progress on its European path.

The Commission reminds that authorities have the significant responsibility of ensuring an atmosphere favourable for freedom of expression in the media and encouraging a culture of tolerance and raising awareness, she told Tanjug.

The B92 management has decided to postpone the broadcasting of the series indefinitely as it could "put the lives of journalists in danger."
