UKRAINE: RUSSIAN JOURNALIST KILLED

30.6.2014. (Beta, B92) - A journalist of Russian state television Channel One Anatoly Klyan was killed in eastern Ukraine amidst clashes between pro-Russion rebels and the Ukrainian army.

Klyan was filming a reportage last nigh in the region of Donetsk where he went with a group of Russian journalists to film interviews with soldiers' mothers who came there to ask their children to withdraw from the conflict-stricken regions.

"As soon as they arrived at the destination, shots were fired. Anatoly Klyan was fatally wounded in the stomach", reported the Russian state television.

A driver who drove the journalists was also wounded at the same time and he was hospitalized.

Klyan was 68. During his 40-years long career he filmed a large number of reportages in conflict zones.

Since the beginning of armed conflict, several journalists were killed in the east of Ukraine, including two Russian journalists who were killed in the region of Lugansk on June 17. Russian state television, which they worked for, accused Ukrainian forces of their killing.

Italian journalist Andrea Ronchelli and his assistant Andrey Mironov were killed at the end of May near Slavyansk.
