ASSANGE LAWYERS DEMAND END OF ARREST WARRANT

Stockholm, 24.6.2014 (Tanjug) - Lawyers of the Wikileaks founder Julian Assange in Sweden demanded the court in Stockholm to withdraw the warrant for his arrest because he has been in the Embassy of Equador in London for two years now in order to avoid extradition to Sweden.

Sweden is demading the 42 year old Australian so that he could be questioned on the allegations of rape, which he denies. Assange fears that Sweden could extradite him to the U.S.A. which want to prosecute him for publishing confidential information.

Thomas Olsson, one of Assange's lawyers in Sweden, said the arrest warrant should be repealed because it cannot be enforced while Assange is in the embassy and the Swedish prosecutor had not considered the possibility of interrogating him in London.

"In light of the significant impact this has on Assange's ability to move freely and to live a normal life, we think that it is unreasonable to uphold the decision," Olsson told Reuters and expressed hope that the court will change the decision.

Great Britain does not allow Assange to safely leave the country to Equador since June 2012 when the Australian sought refuge in the Embassy of Equador in London.
