GREAT BRITAIN: VERDICT IN THE PHONE HACKING AFFAIR
Andy Coulson, former chief of communications for the Prime Minister David Cameron and former editor of the tabloid "News of the World" was found guilty of conspiring to intercept communications of public figures in the affair that shook Britain.
Coulson, who was forced to leave the Prime Minister's cabinet due to the scandal, is now faced with imprisonment. Immediately after reading of the verdict, Cameron publicly expressed regret for hiring Coulson as his head of media relations.
At the same time, former editor of the "News of the world", Stuart Kuttner, was cleared of charges of illicit phone hacking, BBC reported.
Tabloid "News of the world" was closed down on 10 July 2011 after a scandal broke out due to allegations that journalists of the newspaper hacked phone messages of public figures, but also murder victims and victims of terrorist attacks, killed soldiers and victims' family members, as well as numerous public figures, including former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
