COURT: ALL ACCUSED FOR KILLING OF JOURNALIST ANNA POLITKOVSKAYA GUILTY

Moscow, 20.05.2014 (Tanjug, Blic) - A Moscow court today convicted all five men accused of the 2006 murder of Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya.

Judges ruled that the four of the accused are guilty of organizing the murder of Politkovskaya at the entrance to her apartment while the fifth, Rustam Mahmud, was found guilty of murder.

The killing of Politkovskaya, a journalist at the liberal newspaper "Novaya Gazeta" who was sharply critical of the Kremlin's tactics in Chechnya, shocked the world.

This is the first time that those who are directly involved in the murder are brought to justice, said the French agency, adding that the investigation, however, has not yet identified the masterminds of the murder.

Politkovskaya had powerful enemies because she reported without fear on murders perpetrated by armed pro-Russian groups in Chechnya.
