Denouncement of Media Campaign

The Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM) protests in the strongest terms at the latest attack on Radio-Television B92, a member of ANEM, and its editor-in-chief Veran Matic by Belgrade newspaper Internacional.

ANEM expresses solidarity with B92 and Veran Matic and invites journalists, the media and their professional associations, and the entire democratic public, to express their opposition to the abuse of media in order to generate an atmosphere of fear, discredit those of differing political opinion and mark them as state enemies and traitors. It represents a throwback to the darkest tradition of obedient journalism under the Milosevic regime.

ANEM calls on journalists and the media to stick to the highest professional standards and check the accuracy of the information that they publish. The association recalls the tragic consequences that media lynches and unfounded accusations have had in the not so distant past, with the murder of our colleague Slavko Curuvija.

Slobodan Stojsic
President of ANEM Administrative Board
