INFORMATION REGARDING THE DAYS OF MOURNING

Belgrade, May 20, 2014 - The Republic Broadcasting Agency (RBA) informed today radio and television stations on the method of reporting and broadcasting of program content during the period of mourning (21, 22, and 23 May).

Today RRA also held a consultative meeting with broadcasters in order to clarify any uncertainties regarding broadcasting of specific programs.

ANEM is informing its members and other broadcasters that during the period of mourning they are required to:

  • broadcast the decision on the declaration of days of mourning, and the program of its observance in news programs;
  • inform the public in news programs about the commemorations which are, during the days of mourning, organized by the authorities of the Republic of Serbia or the body authorized by them;
  • not broadcast comedy, entertainment, folk music and other content with popular and folk music, which also applies to films and TV series, other than those with documentary content;
  • broadcast artistic and instrumental music of minor tonality, as well as programs that are suitable for the days of mourning;
  • harmonize the program schedule during the days of mourning;
  • bring broadcasting of advertising messages in line with specific program requirements, with the recommendation that broadcasters refrain from their broadcasts during the days of mourning, and with the possibility that the lost time for broadcasting advertising messages be increases after the days of mourning.

The recommendations also apply to cable broadcasters who have a license for cable broadcasting.

The RBA announced that during the days of mourning it will increase monitoring of broadcasters. Broadcasters will first be inform by telephone about identified irregularities, in order to respond as soon as possible and correct the identified deficiencies.

The special broadcasting regime, regarding the days of mourning, will begin on midnight today and lasts until  23 May at midnight.
