The roundtable organized by ANEM, titled "The Challenges of Creation of the Media Sector Development Strategy ", was held on October 28, 2009 in the Belgrade Media Center, with the support of USAID and IREX. Advocating for reform of the media sector and improvement of the position of the media, particularly broadcasters, ANEM has long urged upon authorities the enactment of the Strategy, which should be a comprehensive response to all important media issues. Expected drafting of the media sector development strategy initiated by the Ministry of Culture has not even started yet. Considering that the creation of this document is very important for the further progress of the whole sector and that its further delay must not be allowed, ANEM organized this roundtable wishing to draw the attention of the authorities and the media public to this issue and contribute to its faster and better formulation.

The event was attended by numerous representatives of relevant ministries, regulatory bodies, NGOs, media associations, media experts and representatives of international organizations and donor community.

Almost all present participated in an open and constructive debate, establishing their positions on needs and reasons for the strategy, on prerequisites for its development, its nature and all challenges that needed to be properly resolved for this document to be brought.
