ANEM PARTICIPATION AT THE ROUND TABLE "INDEPENDENCE OF MEDIA AND MEDIA REGULATION IN SERBIA"

Representatives of ANEM participated in the public debate "Independence of Media and Media Regulation in Serbia" organized by the NGO Pravni Forum, held on March 19, 2009 in Belgrade Media Center. Among other, the seventh issue of the Serbian Legal Review was presented at the debate. The publication – a result of cooperation between the Pravni Forum and ANEM – is dedicated to regulation of the media and offers the views of several media experts who have discussed the most pressing problems in the Serbian media scene – the financial crisis and necessary assistance to the media from the state, the blocked reforms, as well as the effect of economic and political factors on the editorial independence and development of the media sector.

The productive public discussion ended with a conclusion that the state must offer adequate assistance to the media during the economic crisis, that all indirect forms of pressure on journalists and the media must be prevented, and that it is necessary to adopt a strategy of media development in order to avoid contradictory provisions in various laws and confusion in their practical implementation.
