ANEM, NUNS AND NDNV SUBMITTED AN OFFICIAL LETTER TO THE COMMITTEE FOR CULTURE AND INFORMATION REGARDING THE ELECTION OF MEMBERS OF RBA COUNCIL
ANEM, along with Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia (NUNS) and Independent Journalists’ Society of Vojvodina (NDNV), submitted on March 4, 2009 a joint official letter to the parliamentary Committee for Information and Culture, stressing within the illegal and harmful effects coming from the conclusions adopted on the sixth session of this Committee. In the official letter media associations also requested the urgent continuance of the process of election for members of the Republican Broadcasting Agency (RBA) Council. Mandate of two members of the Council has already expired, and any maintenance of their function would be opposite to the Broadcasting Law which strictly stipulates that all functions at the Council are terminated at the day of mandate expiration.
ANEM and other media organizations have already issued two Public Statements, emphasizing the possible side effects of dysfunctional regulatory body, if the process of members’ appointment will be further prolonged.
By the official letter, it is demanded from the Committee for Information and Culture to reconsider and withdraw the conclusions of the sixth session, as well as to call the president of the National Parliament to allow immediate voting on new members of the Council of RBA by publishing the list of candidates proposed by the associations of broadcasters, journalists, film and drama artists and composers, accompanied with biographical information for all three candidates from the list.
