Antena M wins the first prize of OneWorld Radio SEE

OneWorld Radio SEE  is pleased to announce that Antena M Radio from Podgorica won the main award for 2004. At the same time, Antena M won the award for best radio station producing programmes in South-Slavic Languages.

The award for best radio station in Albanian language goes to Radio Tema from Urosevac/Ferizaj, and for production in Macedonian language, the prize goes to the Kanal 77 Radio from Stip.

In the fifth year of its successful cooperation with radio stations from the region of Southeastern Europe , OneWorld Radio SEE established the award that will be given annually to the radio stations that could excelled in quality reporting on the issues of human rights and sustainable development in their work and programmes offered for exchange through the OneWorld Radio portal.

The aim of this award is to encourage radio stations to raise the public awareness, through professional reporting, about the need to protect human rights, social justice and peace, and to facilitate the interethnic dialogue in the region, and to demonstrate how media professionalism can contribute to that aim.

Having in mind the fact that OneWorld Radio SEE has four local language editions – Albanian, South-Slavic group of languages, Macedonian and Roma – the award will go to the most deserving station from each edition. The winner of the main Annual OneWorld Radio SEE Award for Contribution to Professional Reporting on Human Rights and Sustainable Development will be selected from those groups of four winners.

With the help of our most active partners, SEE Radio Network (SEERN) from Sarajevo , that monitored and evaluated the contents on all language editions over the course of the year, we decided that Antena M Radio, Radio Tema and Kanal 77 Radio should win the awards for 2004.

The main criteria for the award were that the radio station is a member of OW Radio SEE network, and that it had uploaded at least five programmes to the exchange site in 2004. The programmes by the radio stations that fell into the criteria for the award were evaluated by the SEERN evaluation team and by OneWorld Radio SEE . The jury also took into consideration the professionalism, the level of expertise and the continuity of the quality of reporting. The technical characteristics of the uploaded audio material weren't decisive, although they contributed to the overall impression of professionalism in the preparation of the programmes.

OneWorld Radio SEE and the team that works on the OneWorld SEE Portal congratulate to all award winners and their personnel, and in particular on the efforts they invested in the production. We are also thankful to the other radio stations involved in our audio exchange, which didn't win awards at this occasion, but will have ample opportunity in the coming years of our long cooperation.

The awards and the plaques will be presented during the month of April, on special ceremonies organized in the cities where the award winners are based.
