ANEM CONDEMNS THREATENING MESSAGES SUBMITTED VIA SOCIAL NETWORKS AGAINST JOURNALIST ŽELJKO TVRDIŠIĆ

Belgrade, May 23 2014 - ANEM condemns threatening messages transmitted via the social network Facebook against Željko Tvrdišić, editor-in-chief of Radio Kontact Plus and Tanjug correspondent from Mitrovica.

The threatening message was sent from a profile "Inicijativa Kosovska Mitrovica,"  and Tvrdišić was warned not to talk in negative terms about people who are on one of the election lists participating in Kosovo elections.

We emphasize that during election campaigns journalists are often targets of various kinds of pressures, especially pressure from political centers of power, which often prevents them from performing their function objectively, impartially, and in line with highest professional standards.

ANEM calls on the competent state authorities and authorities of the Interim Administration in Kosovo and Metohija to investigate this incident as soon as possible, so to determine the identity of the person who has sent the threatening messages and establish if there are grounds for further criminal proceedings.

ANEM President, Milorad Tadic
