ANEM SERIES “OUR MEDIA”

Striving to focus attention of the public on numerous and complex problems of Serbian media today and in order to put additional public pressure on authorities to engage more in addressing these problems, ANEM, in cooperation with the production company A-media, produced a series of radio and TV programs dealing with the current media situation, titled "Our media". From November 26 to 30, 2012, Viewers and listeners of ANEM stations across Serbia will have the opportunity to see and listen one of 5 programs of each series every day. By December 3, ANEM TV stations will also broadcast the 26-minute TV magazine, compiled of parts of five TV episodes. Following the airing on TV and radio stations, the entire series will be available on ANEM website and YouTube channel.

The series raises questions about what has happened to media have contributed to democratic changes in Serbia with their independence and professionalism, how they operate today and to what extent has their survival been threatened and why. The story in the series begins where the film "How We Were Banned" left off, which was produced by ANEM back in 2004, in the anticipation of new media laws. How are these expectations met? Is there a way out of the difficult position in which these media are today?

The first program, "What we expected and what we have gained" raises questions about media laws and their application. The main question tackled in the second program, entitled "An odd market", is whether we have the normal media market and healthy competition. In the third program "Political pressure", the interviewees talk about how much the political power is suppressing the media. "What about the profession" is the title of the fourth program, which is dealing with the question whether the professionalism has been sacrificed for the sake of mere survival. Will the independent media survive and why it is important? This is the main question treated in the fifth episode "Is there a light at the end of the tunnel?"

11 interlocutors participate in the programs: Slobodan Krajnovic (Radio 021, Novi Sad), Milorad Tadic (Radio Boom 93, Pozarevac), Aleksandar Rankovic (Radio Luna, Uzice), Boban Tomic (RTV Prima, Bajina Basta), Svetlana Kojanovic (former editor, TV Cacak), Stojan Markovic (Radio Ozon, Cacak), Dragan Kocic (Radio City, Nis), Sasa Mirkovic (ANEM President), Dusan Masic (media expert), Slobodan Kremenjak (media law expert), Goran Karadzic (Vice President of the RBA).
